Authentication is a way of confirming your identity when you sign in to your Zettle by PayPal account or perform specific actions within your account, such as updating account details.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an additional layer to the account login process by requiring users to enter two or more authentication methods (or ‘factors’) for verification.
This extra security helps keep customer information safer. Multi-factor authentication means authentication by verification of at least two of the following types of factors:
- Knowledge: Something you know, such as a password.
- Possession: Something you have, such as an email account or smartphone.
- Inherence: Something you are, like a fingerprint or facial recognition.
What do I need to do?
While most of the time you’ll log in to Zettle by PayPal by entering your login information as usual, we may sometimes prompt you to confirm your identity.
To further safeguard your account, we highly recommend that you ensure your contact information is up to date with your current email address and telephone (mobile and/or landline) number. If we need to ask you for a one-time passcode (OTP), we will send it by email, so your login won’t be delayed.
Do I need to enter a one-time passcode (OTP) every time I log in or update my bank account details?
If you are using the same device and log in within 24 hours, most of the time we’ll be able to verify your identity (if it’s one of your usual devices). In this case, you may continue to log in to your Zettle by PayPal account as usual, using your email address and password.
Where can I get a one-time passcode (OTP)?
We’ll send you a one-time passcode by email each time we need stronger verification of your identity. It’s important that you keep your email address up to date and confirmed in your Zettle by PayPal account profile to make sure this can work.
What if I don’t receive a one-time passcode (OTP) after I requested one?
If you did not receive a one-time passcode while verifying your identity, there are several steps you can take:
- Be patient; it may take a little bit of time for an email to arrive.
- Check that the email from Zettle by PayPal with the OTP didn’t go to your Spam folder.
- Ensure that Zettle by PayPal’s email address is added to your trusted email addresses.
- After requesting an OTP, please wait at least 60 seconds (about 1 minute) for the code to come through before trying again.
- If you have requested an OTP again, please ensure that you only use the most recently issued OTP. Previously issued OTPs will stop working once a new OTP is requested.
Can I disable 2-step verification on my Zettle by PayPal account?
It is not possible to disable 2-step verification on the Zettle by PayPal account.
What’s a remembered device?
A remembered device is a personal web or mobile browser, or mobile device used to access your Zettle by PayPal account, that we remember after we successfully confirm your identity. This makes it easier to log in or change your bank account details on your Zettle by PayPal account because the device works as one of the two factors needed for MFA. There might be instances where we still ask you for another verification to ensure that your account is secure.
