How to connect with BigCommerce

By connecting with BigCommerce, you can:

  • Sell online and instore 

  • Manage your product and stock data in your preferred platform

  • Automatically sync products and stock data between BigCommerce and Zettle 

Choose your platform for managing products

  • Decide which platform you want to use as home base. This will affect where you manage your products. Product info from your chosen platform can overwrite info on the other platform.

  • You’ll need a BigCommerce and a Zettle account for this integration. You can signup for accounts during the integration setup.

  • We recommend that you make sure the stock quantities in your preferred platform are up to date.

Manage products in BigCommerce

  • Create, update, and delete products in BigCommerce.

  • Sync products from BigCommerce to Zettle.

Good to know: product changes made on Zettle can be lost
Changes made on Zettle will not be synced to BigCommerce. Product info from BigCommerce will overwrite product info added through Zettle.

Connect the integration

  1. Search for Zettle in BigCommerce apps

  2. Select Get this App.

  3. Choose if you are a New or Existing BigCommerce customer.

  4. Install the Zettle app.

  5. Select to Connect.

  6. Choose to manage products in BigCommerce.

  7. Choose if you want to include prices when you sync products*

  8. Go back to BigCommerce to add products or finish later.

Syncing products from BigCommerce to Zettle

When the integration is connected, a channel is automatically created in your BigCommerce store called “PayPal Zettle”.

Assign products to this sales channel to have them appear in the Zettle product library.

Connect the integration

Connect accounts

  1. Sign in to your Zettle account

  2. Go to your Integrations page and choose BigCommerce.

  3. In the Zettle integration screen, select Connect.

  4. Login or signup to BigCommerce.

  5. Choose to manage products in Zettle.

  6. Choose if you want to include prices when you sync products*

  7. Choose if you’d like to sync all or selected products.

  8. Select Finish setup.

Syncing products from Zettle to BigCommerce

You have two options for syncing your products:

  • Sync all the products in your Zettle library to BigCommerce in one go. This can only be done during the setup process.

  • Manually pick and choose which products you want to sync to BigCommerce from inside your Zettle product library. You can do this at any time.

Once you have set up your BigCommerce integration, you can repeatedly sync your products from your Zettle account.

Sync products

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com

  2. Select the products you want to sync using the checkbox column.

  3. Open the Actions menu and select Assign channels.

  4. In the popup window, select the checkbox for BigCommerce.

  5. Use the Update products button to apply the change.

You can also assign a single product from inside the product detailed view.

Show your products correctly on BigCommerce

In BigCommerce, all synced products are first placed in the category labelled PayPal Zettle. You need to move the products to relevant categories and make them visible in your webshop.

  1. Sync the products on my.zettle.com.

  2. Log in to BigCommerce and find the synced products under the category PayPal Zettle.

  3. Move the products to the relevant BigCommerce category and update the prices if necessary.

  4. Make them visible in your BigCommerce shop.

Check the sync status

You can always check the status of the sync in the Sync log located on your BigCommerce integrations page on Zettle.

  1. Log in to your account on my.zettle.com.

  2. Go to Integrations and select BigCommerce.

  3. Select the Sync log tab and review the Sync status.

Remove a product from BigCommerce

To stop syncing one or more products with BigCommerce:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com.

  2. Select the products you want to stop syncing using the checkbox column.

  3. In the popup unselect the checkbox for BigCommerce and click Update products.

  4. Confirm with the Unassign products button.

Separate stock for Zettle and BigCommerce

Your stock is synchronised between Zettle and BigCommerce by default. You can turn this off by unchecking Enable inventory tracking inside the detail view of a product.

For certain products, you may want to track the stock of that product separately for in-store and online sales.

To turn on separate stock:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com

  2. Click on the product name to open the product detail view.

  3. Head to the section called Inventory.

  4. Ensure that Enable inventory tracking is on.

  5. Select the checkbox Separate stock for BigCommerce.

  6. Enter how much stock amount you want to allocate to BigCommerce and Zettle.

  7. Use the Save button to apply the change.

To turn off separate stock:

  1. Go to your product library on my.zettle.com

  2. Select the product name to open the product detail view.

  3. Head to the section called Inventory.

  4. Uncheck the checkbox Separate stock for BigCommerce.

  5. Confirm the action by clicking on Turn off separate stock.

Managing import and sync

I have a lot of duplicated products after syncing products from Zettle to BigCommerce. How do I fix that?
If you have the same or similar products in BigCommerce and Zettle before setting up the sync, you will get duplicates. But the products synced from Zettle will end up in a new category called “Zettle” and can easily be identified.

The integration says setup is incomplete – what should I do?
You may not have completed every step to sync your products. Click into the BigCommerce integration and complete the setup.

Can I connect multiple BigCommerce stores to my Zettle account?
No, you can only connect one Zettle account to one BigCommerce store.

Which products will be synced?
If you chose to manage products in Zettle to BigCommerce, you have two options:

1. Sync all products during the integration setup

  • Syncs all products already in your Zettle library

  • Syncs all newly created products

2. Manually chose which products to sync with BigCommerce

  • Syncs only the products you selected

  • Syncs all newly created products

If you choose to sync products from BigCommerce to Zettle this syncs all the products you assign to the PayPal Zettle sales channel.

I make updates of product variants in BigCommerce but variants don’t get changed in Zettle?
If you chose to manage products in Zettle, all product variant changes need to be done in Zettle.
If you chose to manage products in BigCommerce, all product variant changes need to be done in BigCommerce.

How can I change where I manage my products?
To change from managing your products in Zettle to BigCommerce or vise versa, you need to disconnect the integration and connect it again, choosing your preferred platform.

If you’re planning to reconnect the integration again, we suggest removing products from the platform you are disconnecting to avoid duplicates or future sync failures.

Managing prices and taxes

Should I include prices when syncing products?
During the integration setup, you will be asked if you want to include prices when you sync products. You can only include prices if you have matching currency settings in Zettle and BigCommerce.

We recommend choosing not to include prices, and adding prices after the product has synced if

  • You want to have different prices for online and in-store products

  • You are certain you don’t want to sync prices at any point in time

This setting will affect the products synced during setup as well as all future synced products, and can only be changed by disconnecting and reconnecting the integration.

When you choose not to sync prices, all products will be synced with a value of 0, and you should add the price inside the platform you synced to.

How are my taxes handled?
You can adjust your tax settings in both Zettle and BigCommerce. However, tax information is not synced between the platforms.
If you want to sync your products with prices, then we recommend setting up the same tax settings and currency on both platforms.

Managing inventory and sales

If I sell in BigCommerce, will the inventory be updated in Zettle?
Yes. A sale or refund in BigCommerce will update the inventory number in Zettle.

If I sell in Zettle, will the inventory be updated in BigCommerce?
Yes. A sale or refund in Zettle will update the inventory number in BigCommerce, too.

What happens if I manually update the inventory in BigCommerce or Zettle?
Regardless of where you update your inventory, the update will be reflected in the other platform if inventory tracking is enabled and separate stock is disabled.

Can I disable syncing of inventory?
If you chose to manage products in Zettle, then you can turn off inventory sync for an individual product inside the product details page. Check the section “How to enable separate stock for Zettle and BigCommerce” for more information.

Will BigCommerce take a percentage fee of the sales made in Zettle?
No.

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing issues with the integration, you can take a few steps you can take.

Check the Sync log in Zettle
Visit the sync located on your BigCommerce integrations page on Zettle. You can see more detailed information on product syncing.

Disconnect then reconnect the integration.

Some issues may be resolved by repeating the connection setup. Disconnect the integration from the BigCommerce integrations page on Zettle.

If you’re planning on reconnecting, we recommend removing products when prompted to avoid duplicates or future sync failures.
